9 January - Clovelly. Playing the greatest game ever invented

What a wonderful game this game of golf is.

Frustrating. Some times. Humiliating. Some times.

Maybe a better word than humiliating is...mortification.

The word is derived from 'mors', the Latin word for death. To be mortified is to feel so humiliated that you would rather drown yourself in some water hazard than show your face in the clubhouse ever again.

I Played 18 holes at the beautifull Clovelly Country Club today.

Set in a beautifull valley. Built into the dunes bordering Silvermine nature reserve.

My one playing partner today. An offshore diver.  Had a horrible first 9 for his standards. 48 shots. Mortified.

Just to get to the last hole. Par 5 stroke 1. To hit a beautifull drive. And a beautifull second for a put for eagle.
You could see the elation on his face.
It was great to watch.

What a great game this is!

A wider smile would not have been possible.

One of my playing partners was an 85 year old 'swallow'. He's had 20 years of only summers. 6 months in S.A. and 6 months in the UK.

He was an avid runner in his younger years. His last marathon was 10 years ago when he broke the British record for the Marathon for runners 75 years and older. Wow!

I played solid. 73 shots. (Eventhough I wanted and tried...and should have broken par.)
At the end of the day we both shot 71 net. We tied.

What a great game.

Is there another game where you can do this?

Clovelly is in great condition. T's, fairways and greens all good.

You won't be disappointed if you get a round in there soon.

See you on the fairways!
